Much-loved Half-Life 2: Episode 1 mode 'Minerva' has been released in enhanced form for free via Steam.

Minerva

is the critically acclaimed work of Adam Foster, who earned himself a job at Valve following his work on the mod in 2006.Minerva "takes you to a remote island under the control of Combine forces," explains the description, for those who haven't played it. "Something is going on here. Your goal is to uncover what that is and destroy it. Oh, yes-- and try to survive.Foster tells Kotaku that the re-released version, free now via Steam, adds "tweaked visuals, bug fixes, better puzzles and all kinds of subtle improvements".Although it's free, you must already own Half Life 2: Episode 1 to play the mod.Download it here.
