Colony Studios, a new development studio set up by a number MMOG dev veterans, has revealed it's working on a sci-fi, spaced-themed massively multiplayer online game.
Speaking about the game to RPG Vault, the company's CEO Michael Wallis explained, "Our IP will be centred on a dynamic living 'world' far more than a linear storyline that hinders replayability. We will provide a ton of history and backstory in the game, but the players will consistently influence the content."
He continued, "The important differentiator is this - players will log in and react to what's been happening in the game, not log in and get the same exact experience they had the last time they played. Our game is dynamic, so you'd better keep up with it."
"Ultimately, we think this will attract the interest of gamers because of our unique approach to warfare and player vs. player combat, territory control and player advancement. Finally, the end game is what everyone strives for, and if we use our experience and talent correctly, ours will be completely immersive and rewarding."
Colony Studios' staff includes members that have worked on a number of MMOGs, such as World of Warcraft and EverQuest, along with Eve Online, City of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot, Lord of the Rings Online and Ultima Online.
Wallis also revealed that back in 2005 Colony Studios was in negotiations with Universal regards developing a Battlestar Galactica MMOG, "but things eventually fell through due to a variety of factors beyond our control."
He added in an official statement on the forming of Colony Studios, "Most dev teams - including Colony's - have gone through the process of learning what doesn't work in game development, but our team members have also been intimately involved with creating what does work in several successful MMOs and that combination will serve us well. Our challenge is, of course, to use our experience and talent correctly to create an MMO that players will enjoy."
