Component manufacturer Mushkin has announced that it will offer the 'world's first' 480GB mSATA SSD in 2013.
Until now, the largest size drive available for ultrabooks had been 256GB, and whilst Apple offered an upgrade of up to 512GB with its MacBook Air, there are use a small number of third party SSDs available offering such a high capacity.
Given the size constraints of ultrabooks, they are unable to fit standard 2.5-inch SATA SSDs into their frame, and therefore use a smaller device known as mini-SATA.
Mushkin's small yet sizeable drive will offer up to 480GB storage space, transfer speeds of up to 6Gb/s and will be released in January 2013 with a hefty price tag of $500. http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/...the-way/029770
