Demand for Windows 8 tablets has increased throughout the opening quarter of 2013 says a newly released report.
According to research Strategy Analytic, Windows 8 tablets accounted for 7.5 per cent of the global tablet market, which is based on operating market share.
However, whilst Windows and its partners combined to ship a total 3.4 million Windows 8 devices in Q1, the firm continued to state sales could have been even higher.
"Very limited distribution, a shortage of top tier apps, and confusion in the market, are all holding back shipments," a Strategy Analytics statement reads.
Outside of Windows 8 devices, the tablet market reached an all-time high of 40.6 million global shipments during the first three months of 2013, an increase of 117 per cent on the 18.7 million tablets shipped in Q1 2012.
Unsurprisingly, Apple's iPad claimed the top spot in the tablet market with a share of 48.2 per cent, which converts to 19.5 million shipped.
